Fontanar (also popularly called El Fontanar ) is a Spanish town anddistrict belonging to the municipality of Pozo Alcón , in the province of Jaén . It is located in the southeastern part of the Sierra de Cazorla region . Four kilometers from the border with the province of Granada , near this town are the towns of Hinojares , Cañada Morteros and La Colonia .

The word Fontanar means birth, and refers to the infinite springs on which its houses sit. A significant gap separates it from the valley of theGuadiana MenorRiver, giving rise to a hillside with deep ravines with high slopes (with differences in level of up to 400 meters, sometimes in perfect verticality). From the top, places such as the Mirador del Lirio (geodetic point of 898 meters) offer views of practically all of Eastern Andalusia, from where you can watch the sunset.
Its semi-desert landscape and its steppe flora and fauna are unique within the natural park. Neighborhoods such as La Loma stand out, a natural viewpoint to which we must add the uniqueness of its buildings, the cave houses, or La Rambla , with abundant water springs and vegetation that make it a very interesting place with great natural attractions.
